OTTERTON, DEVON WITH MAGGIE. May 16 - 25, 2018

Drove on to Otterton and arrived at 5:45, hardly any directions because I lost my phone in the toilet when it flipped out of my coat pocket. So happy to finally find the house of Emma, Jeremy and Maggie. We walked Maggie along river to see how hard she was to walk her, had a tasty dinner in the glass room, laughter and talked. They left at 10 am for France 🇫🇷

What a house! Everything my idea of England has ever been...thatched roof, wooden beam interiors, gardens, an orchard and even a complete apartment in the restored barn.

Maggie, a sweetie pie and delightful to spend our ten days together with her, not so easy on the lead but we figured it out as we walked her around the village; down to the flour mill cafe and up to the hill overlooking the village.  Gorgeous sunny days and so much to enjoy.

The house sits directly in the street, all the gardens and open views are behind a tall gate. Our room was the upper left hand windows, second floor.
A working flour mill was just five minute walk away with fresh bread each morning and a cafe all day, outside seating.
Our aga, my favorite cooktop and oven.
Time to just sit and enjoy the beauty of gardens within the 15' high brick walls.
The living room we never used
 The hearth
We were here during the Royal Wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan. So fun to watch in the apartment with the enormous flat screen TV, we felt as if we were actually there in the church celebrating.

The days were warm and became even warmer. Without any automatic sprinkler system, I was out watering morning and evening, still couldn't get to it all. A most gorgeous garden over three levels.
Maggie loved her walks up the hill across from the house and lots of footpaths nearby to walk her.
This was our view of Otterton village from the hilltop.
On one of our walks Maggie and I got the leash tangled and I had a slight fall, spraining my ankle...finding somewhere to buy ice and a bandage from the nearby chemist helped the recovery.
Recycle day was always an event...the truck had many different doors to collect the separated items. We had four different tubs to fill and set outside the gate.
 Lovely walks
A favorite outing for us was to drive the VERY teeny road out of the village south to Sidmouth. The views of the Jurassic Coast were amazing from the cliffside.

I caught this photo as we drove the nearby villages, this in Newton Poppleford.
Our family returned mid morning ...the sausage left within Maggie's reach, that's a story! A fabulous experience and lovely couple. We love being Trusted Housesitters :)
