BOURTON, UK & MAGGIE the LUCHER APRIL 29 - MAY 8, 2018

We began our next housesit only 26 miles away so an easy drive to county Dorset and our home, East Barn with a Lurcher named Maggie and a hedgehog! A lovely home, in the little village of Bourton with only a population of 822 :).

And this is Maddie, the sweetest dog, tall with spiky fur and so very gentle.
Driving the tiniest roads in and around the village, loved coming cross this little Farm Shop in Gillingham, such a perfect name.  We picked up several Cook meals here for our stay nearby.

Daily walk with Paul to the little gas station/grocery store each morning for the newspaper.

Lots of foot paths nearby with stunning vistas.

Fun stiles to cross over, while Maggie went under.

We're always rewarded with a gorgeous view as we walk!

Beautiful fields of rapeseed in full bloom all around our drives.
WEDNESDAY, MAY 3, 2018;  NT STOURHEAD in Wiltshire
Visiting the National Trust property at Stourhead was fantastic! When first opened in the 1740s, it was described as "a living work of art" and it remains that to this day. With classic architecture, meandering paths, a lake and waterfall, trees and classical temples, it was simply magnificent on a crystal blue sky day. It's hard to believe you're looking at 300 years of history when walking the grounds. Since it was only a 15 minute drive from our housesit we loved taking Maggie over to the gardens in the late afternoon when dogs are allowed on the walking paths surrounding the gardens.

Avebury Stone Circe, the world's largest prehistoric stone circle excavated in 1930s, a warm and beautiful day for a docent lead tour of the grounds.

Kingston Lacy, Wimborne, Dorset
A lavish home built to resemble a Venetian Palace

We wandered through the Japanese Garden in full bloom, as well as the Kitchen Garden where we were told Queen Victoria once sent her gardeners for inspiration...all on an 8,500 acre estate!
Monday was our packing up day and time to relax in the morning.
That afternoon we treated ourselves to a late lunch at Cole Manor Tea Rooms. It was a bank holiday and I hadn't thought to make reservations but soon a table came open in the shade. It was such a warm day, the trees made it perfect.

Tuesday morning was time to say goodby to Maggie and our wonderful stay in Dorset.
