Our new favorite international low-fare airline is Norwegian Air. Great prices when booked in advance and comfortable planes with a great range of films to watch, so our flight from Orlando Monday evening to London Gatwick passed quickly. We had an overnight on Tuesday near London Heathrow before flying Wednesday morning to Luxembourg on British Airways. Not far from Heathrow is the lovely National Trust, Osterly Park and House. We've spent time there before and looked forward to seeing the renovations completed this time. It's an amazing way to get away from the craziness of the busy city & airport and feel the beauty of the country, only 5 stops on the tube. Suddenly we were surrounded by gardens, park and farmland. Osterly was created in the 18th century and is presented as it would have looked in 1780. We had lunch in the stables tea-room and a lovely walk through the formal gardens.
The Long Hall used for walking and getting exercise when the weather outside is chilly.Wednesday morning our flight from LHR to LUX was a short hop, and Hazel, our homeowner, met us at the airport for the half hour drive to Lenningen and this lovely home.
Our pet sitting included keeping the pond fish fed, keep the bird feeders and red squirrel feeders filled and feed the little stray kitty, Bluebell who had moved into their garden just months before. In exchange, we had a beautiful home at the end of a tiny village surrounded by hillsides of vineyards and the use of their cute VW convertible. Such a wonderful experience!
We were staying for six weeks and loved just walking the vineyards each day. The village has just couple of streets, one the main bus route so it was easy to catch the bus into Luxembourg City, 2 euro each. The local architecture is a blend of traditional and modern.
Our favorite walking trail also brought us along the acres of corn growing nearby.
The next village from us is Ehnen, a wonderful 2 mile walk downhill to the Mosel River.
And lucky for us, we were there in time for the annual Wine Festival.Warm beautiful days, always fun to wake to views of the vineyards everywhere.
In the nearby town of Remish we found this great sign
One of our first outings was to the city of Echternach in eastern Luxembourg. Built around the Abbey of Echternach, which was founded in 698. Amazing!
The river Sauer flows past the town and now forms the border here between Grmany and Luxembourg.
Everywhere we drove we were always on small country roads with a variety of farm animals.
And always returning to our home each evening to enjoy the lovely long evenings outside.
