It was now time to spend our own days, (no dogs, cats or hedgehogs) to explore the west coast of Cornwall. We'd become such fans of the mini series, Poldark, we both just wanted to see this beautiful rugged coastline of England. Our 8 nights would give us a small token of the beauty of Cornwall and some lovely AirBnB stays. We were driving 145 miles southwest from Bourton and stopped mid morning in Somerset to visit Sheppy's Cider House.
Before long we were driving the coast highway south from Barnstable to our stay for 3 nights near Boscastle, UK.
The backside of our little cottage, bright sun but chilly winds.
Cattle in the nearby field followed Paul across to our crossover.
This cottage also came with a friendly horse who stood waiting outside our window for any treats we might have for him.
Our kitchen window view
and of course, Poldark labels in the shops nearby.
A morning walk along the harbor at Boscastle, protected by the wonderful National Trust!
Nearby we visited the Tintagel Old Post Office, a medieval building with cottage garden. It's a 14th-century farmhouse and the National Trust's first built property in Cornwall, acquired in 1903. The name "post office" comes from the Victorian era when it briefly was licensed to be the letter receiving station for the area.
Another destination on our Cornwall/ PBS motivated tour was to visit the Doc Martin locales in Port Isaac (Portwenn)! It's a bit of a walk down into the village from the parking lot and along the bay.
It wasn't the prettiest of days for us and there was filming going on so some areas were cordoned off and we never saw sight or sound of the cast.
But with the help of the little map provided in the Tourist office we found the main buildings reinvented for the show...here is Fern Cottage, Doc Martin's house and below it is Bert Large's restaurant.
Down the hill is a shop, Buttermilk Confections or Mrs. Tishal's Chemist on the show.
