Once we were back in San Luis we had a few days to enjoy friends, dinners and movies while putting more things on Craig's List! We had about a week before we'd take off for a 10 day trip to Guatemala with friends, Maria and Frank Penner, so there was a lot to do!
We decided we should go ahead and sell our little brown 1960 Mercedes, a very hard decision since we have owned it for almost 42 years.
We both felt it was better to have it go to a new owner than to worry about storing it until..? We took our last outing in it one evening driving with Jim and Carolyn to Jocko's in Nipomo for a tasty steak dinner. We did so well until coming home when we ran out of diesel! AAA came to our rescue with a gallon or so to get us home. It was always my "school" car for so many years going to Los Ranchos and back to Shell Beach.
We also knew we needed to sell Paul's VW trusty work van.
Paul thought he'd have better luck selling the MB on eBay so we got it listed and started the week long auction. We put the van and other miscellaneous things up on Craig's List. While he was busy cleaning and polishing up the van to show prospective buyers and sorting through his tools, I had fun visiting with friends. Katie Bauer was in SLO for the same week so there was lots of catching up to do.
I also had a chance to see my Wednesday morning Breakfast Club friends and our littlest member, Ellie Devitt. Since I'm not there as often she doesn't recognize me but does warm up as the morning goes along. Here she is with Kathie Haley.
After breakfast Nelda showed us her brand new car, only 2 days old in the photo! What fun!
After the rainy Wednesday, Thursday morning was bright and sunny and a perfect day for walking along the cliffs in Cambria with Carolyn, Annette, Anne and Linda, followed by lunch in Cambria.
Yes...cold, but so beautiful.
We had dinner Thursday night with our dinner group at Tony and Anna Evans' house...and a chance to finally meet little Zora!
What a fantastic evening laughing and sharing delicious food. I was so proud of having baked 2 pies in our motor home oven! A first for me.
Saturday was the annual Women's Shelter Benefit Fashion Show at Madonna Inn and a perfect time for Sheri and I to go once again! We had a wonderful time, so much fun. It's amazing how professional the performances are!!! It had been many years since we'd gone to the show and this was perfect... Just sad I didn't get a photo of us!
Then it was time to start thinking about packing for our trip to Guatemala. I love to travel but I always put off the packing since its my least favorite thing to do! But with Paul out doing errands, (and a stop at his favorite coffee shop in San Luis)
I buckled down to staying focused and getting it done. We wanted to leave mid day Monday so time was flying by and there's nothing as hard as packing 2 suitcases in a very tiny space. So that took up the rest of Saturday afternoon and a nice feeling once the cases were closed and zipped.
Sunday we took Foster up to our wonderful friends, Laura and Eli Afana for his holiday at their ranch. As soon as I opened the car door, Foster jumped out and ran straight for the glass door, he sure knew where he was! We had a great visit over dinner in town before saying good bye. How lucky we are that Foster has a loving second home with them, (even if their cats don't agree).
Monday morning there we still some loose ends to take care of before leaving for LAX, our flight was leaving at 10:45 pm, a direct flight to Guatemala City. We left the motor home parked at Jim and Carolyn's. An exciting 10 days awaited us.
